swam in dark blue at 5:30 am…
Life’s been decent lately….
Nighttime had never felt so dark. On the contrast, the stars had never been so clustered and clear. Blue velvet littered with millions of diamonds. The sea before me was endless. Even the immense size of the ship I stood on seemed miniscule compared to the open water before me. Blue so deep it was almost black; the moon was nowhere to be found that night. I stood up from the guard railing and slowly took a turn around the deck. The heels of my boots echoed once and disappeared into the night. As far as I could tell, I was alone on this ship. Once the realization of my isolation set in, I began to wonder where the ship was headed. Looking up at the sky I wished that someone with old knowledge could have taught me how to navigate by star…. a most valuable skill any human could possess… any human somehow lost at sea. There is no such thing as silence in this world. There’s always the soft pattern of breathing, the deep rumble of currents flowing, and the wind, from whisper to howl. As my solitude continued to change shapes, the beauty of my surroundings quieted my loneliness.
